Matěj Lipavský is a painter who draws on an extensive experience of working outdoors. His use of light, which is key to his work, is always linked to a concrete place and time. Matěj does not limit himself only to painting, often finding expression through the use of photographs, reliefs or objects. Whatever the medium he uses, the light remains at the centre of his interest. He presents the results of his work in installations which he embeds naturally within a place and – by extension – within the present. His painting does not close onto itself, on the contrary, its principles are wittily offered up for comprehension and lead us to reinterpret the way we view the world around us.
